  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • Spoon
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • knife
  • cutting board
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  5. Pour in the tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  6. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  7. Pour the Sloppy Joe filling into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  8. Unroll the crescent roll dough and arrange the triangles over the Sloppy Joe filling, slightly overlapping them.
  9. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the crescent rolls.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For a spicier casserole, add a diced jalapeno or use a spicier chili powder. You can substitute some of the ketchup with your favorite BBQ sauce. To prevent a soggy crust, lightly brush the crescent rolls with melted butter before adding the cheese. Store leftover Sloppy Joe Casserole in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat individual portions in the microwave or bake the entire casserole in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) until heated through.
